Emily Perry BSc
Sports Performance Coach
Emily is a professional golfer with a degree in psychology and NLP practitioner certification.
Since 2018 she has been working as a performance coach, covering a range of sporting codes.
Her work has two facets:
1. She works with athletes to transform their mental skills by creating self-awareness and implementing ways to deal with pressure.
2. She works with athletes to enhance their performance by assessing their current performance level and creating a personalised plan.
Emily has had a colourful golf career, representing New Zealand countless times, including the World Amateur Team Championships – the highest honour for an amateur golfer.
She has played golf in over 25 countries, winning 30 different golf tournaments. She beat her teammate and friend Lydia Ko to win the NZ Strokeplay title in 2012.
Lydia happened to be No1 female amateur golfer in the world at the time and Emily was No38! Check it out on YouTube!

Emily turned professional in 2012 playing on the LET Tour and Australian Tour. While enjoying playing professionally, she at times struggled with performance anxiety, not realising at what it was. She would perform amazingly during practice, but in the competition, a specific part of her golf game would let her down on a regular basis.
“It started to really affect who I was both on and off the golf course. I struggled on and off with this for two years, feeling lonely and demoralised. I walked away from golf completely for two years and pursued a psychology degree, as well as becoming a NLP practitioner.”
Shortly after finishing her degree, Emily started performance coaching athletes, specifically performing under pressure, and creating improvement plans with them.
“I really enjoyed this type of coaching but it was always in the back of my mind whether I could apply what I was coaching to myself in professional golf events.
“I competed in six different professional events in 2021 and was surprised to find that I still had the same mental patterns wanting to emerge under pressure, even after five plus years without competing.
“It was tough, rewarding, built my resilience and I cried, laughed and worked very hard to do the best I could out there in those events.”
The moral of Emily’s own story is that we all have mental patterns, demons, triggers, (whatever you want to call them) but it’s about being aware of the effect they actually have on you when you are competing.
The classic saying “failure to prepare = prepare to fail” really does come into play, as being able to practice the right elements under pressure and having the right tools in your Performance Box is the most effective way to give yourself the best chance when you are competing.
Now, Emily works with athletes and teams all over the world to upgrade their performance in their particular sports.
Some of her most rewarding work comes from working with the 10 Middlesex County golf teams. Ranging from junior to senior level, both male and female, Emily provides performance planning for all the teams - a highlight of her winter coaching.
“I’m not going to tell you it’s all going to be easy as it can be tough to face your own mental blocks and fears, but just imagine how you would feel performing when you are fully mentally equipped to do so.”
